KOKEDAMA

KOKEDAMA

$25.00Price

Kokedama means "moss ball" in Japanese. We make all of our own Kokedama and typically make them using ferns or similiar medium to low light plants. Can be hung in a north-facing window or placed in a small bowl or dish.

These plants grow without a pot and can be happy in the size of their moss balls for about 2 years before either repotting or making a larger Kokedama.

Care for the various plants used in our Kokedama will be similiar.

  • LIGHT

Medium to low indirect light. Rotate plant often for even growth. Do not place in direct sun as leaves will burn and moss ball will dry out quickly. Northern windows are great for Kokedamas!

  • WATER

Ferns are most often used when making Kokedama. Ferns like the soil to be kept evenly moist. Feel the weight of the Kokedama before and after watering. When the moss ball feels light or leaves start to droop, proceed with watering.

    How to water:

    • Soak moss ball in a small bowl of water allowing all parts of the moss ball to get water. Do not submerge the foiliage.
    • Allow to soak for 10-15 minutes. Most of the water should be obsorbed by this time.
    • Gently squeeze the ball to allow extra water to drip. Use a paper towel or cloth towel to gently soak up any extra water before putting back on display.
    • You can mist the moss ball portion of the Kokedama regularly to extend watering intervals and provide some humidity.
  • TIPS

    • Kokedamas love humidity! If you have a bathroom with lots of space and medium indirect light, this plant would love this environment!
    • Fertilize once a month during spring/summer by adding diluted houseplant fertilizer to the water when soaking.
    • Keep away from pets.
  • TOXICITY

Since a variety of plants get used in the making of kokedamas, we recommend keeping your Kokedama out of the reach of pets and children.
